SUMMARY:Simon Baker (Loughborough):  Pair correlation statistics for dynamical systems
DESCRIPTION;ENCODING=QUOTED-PRINTABLE: In this talk I will discuss a recent work with Mike Todd where we study the pair correlation statistics associated with orbits generated by maps of the interval. We show that under suitable mixing assumptions, the pair correlation statistics of an orbit will almost surely exhibit the same asymptotic behaviour as that of a suitable sequence of i.i.d. random variables. Specific maps to which our results apply include Gibbs-Markov maps and the Gauss map.
