Interests
Conservation biology is one of the rare fields of biology where evolution has been too often neglected. The reason for it probably stands from the misconception that evolution does not act on a relevant time scale. In our lab, we combine the fields of evolutionary and conservation biology to demonstrate the necessity to consider evolutionary theories in conservation programs.Since 2010 we have been supporting sea turtle conservation groups in Cabo Verde, giving them the needed tools and knowledge to improve their conservation strategies and helping them to build a sustainable future for both sea turtles and local communities. During this time, we have collected thousands of genetic samples and we have created open-source resources that help sea turtle conservation all over the world.
