Research Facilities
The CEFG has access to a wide range of analytical research services and core facilities. The facilities offer state-of-the-art equipment and support processes that allow for efficient and consistent high throughput.
The imaging facility comprises confocal and digital light sheet microscopes and microscopes for ultra-high resolution fluorescence measurements. The transmission electron microscopy facility has freeze fracture and ultramicrotome capacities. The CEFG also benefits from access to NMR and X-ray crystallography facilities as well as protein purification services.
The genomics facility in the School of Biological and Behavioural Sciences specialises in long read sequencing, optical density mapping and transcriptomics. The facility has sequencing platforms such as the Bionano Saphyr genome mapping system and PromethION 24 as well as the portable PromethION 2 solo and minION technologies. Further genomics facility is based at the Genome Centre at the Blizard Institute. This provides a range of different technology platforms for Single Cell Genomics, Spatial Biology, Next Generation Sequencing- Illumina NextSeq and MiSeq, Arrays- Illumina Bead Arrays, RT PCR, Sanger sequencing, microsatellite genotyping and bioinformatics analysis.
