Interests

I am Associate Professor in Multimodal AI at Queen Mary University of London, UK. I am Fellow of Higher Education Academy, holder of Post-Graduate Certificate, IEEE member, BMVA member, AAAI member and IARP associate member.

I obtained the Ph.D. from Imperial College London, where I was a member of the iBUG group and recipient of the prestigious Teaching Fellowship of Imperial College London. I received the M.Sc. from Imperial College London and the Diploma/M.Sc. from the National Technical University of Athens.

I was awarded the 'Sullivan Thesis Prize' by British Machine Vision Association & Society for Pattern Recognition (BMVA) at BMVC 2023, a Prize for UK researchers, based on their Thesis’ originality, academic and industrial impact, breadth & depth.

I am listed in the most recent edition (for 2023) of the Stanford-Elsevier ranking of the World’s Top 2% Scientists, where I am ranked: i) 31,716 out of 223,152 Top Scientists (among all disciplines and fields) globally; ii) 1,275 out of 399,064 Top Scientists in AI & Image Processing globally.

My research and interests span the areas of multimodal (image/video, audio, text, time series, sensors) machine and deep learning, trustworthy (fair, responsible, explainable and ethical) AI, data science and big data, computer vision, affective computing, behavior analysis & generation, digital humans, human machine interaction, medical imaging, mental health & healthcare.

I have co-authored more than 70 publications in the top journals and conferences, such as IJCV, CVPR, ICCV, ECCV, AAAI, TAFFC, ECAI and Neurocomputing. I am inventor of the 'Facial Behaviour Analysis' (2021) patent. My research has been funded and used by many top international companies. I have h-index 36, with over 5400 citations (according to google scholar).

I have been:
i) General Chair of the ABAW series of Workshops and Competitions in CVPR 2025, 2024, 2023 & 2022, ECCV 2024 & 2022, ICCV 2021 and IEEE FG 2020;
ii) co-Organizer & Chair of the DEF-MIA-COV19D series of Competitions and Workshops in CVPR 2024, IEEE ICASSP 2023, ECCV 2022 and ICCV 2021;
iii) co-Organizer of MRAC and REACT Workshops in ACM-MM 2024 & 2023;
iv) Co-organizer of Deepfakes Detection Grand Challenge at ACM-MM 2024.

I am reviewer in most top journals and conferences in my fields. I am reviewer for evaluation of grant proposals (e.g. EU, UK, Canada, Qatar).
