Title: iPSC-derived resident macrophages and their role in tissue-engineered heart tissues: Engineering biophysical platforms and non-invasive assessment.

Academic Profile:

Dr. Michael Monaghan is a Professor in Biomedical Engineering at Trinity College Dublin. His group's primary research areas are in biomaterials (in particular electroconductive biomaterials), advanced processing and rational design of biomaterials, cardiac tissue regeneration, and real-time label-free imaging of cellular metabolism and viscoelasticity in differentiation and disease. He leads a number of interdisciplinary projects ranging from immunometabolism, evaluation of fibrosis, biomaterial synthesis and induced pluripotent stem cell derivatisation of cardiac organoids. He and his group have received notable prestigious awards including the Robert Browne Early Career Investigator Award issued by the Tissue Engineering and Regenerative Medicine International Society (TERMIS-EU Chapter, 2023) and Engineers Ireland Medal. Currently at TCD he coordinates a Horizon2020 MSCA-Doctoral Network (flimagin3D-DN). a European Research Council (ERC) Consolidator Grant, and Research Ireland Frontiers for the Future Project (BRILLFLIM).
